PowerBI Report Server, Under The Hood: Introduction
Many companies, including the one I’m employed with, choose on-premise BI solutions to accommodate their strict security policy. With Microsoft actively working out the quirks of complying with numerous privacy acts (here is the latest for Canada), I expect we should be able to make a move to the cloud fairly soon, but for now PowerBI Report Server remains a primary distribution platform for analytical content for most healthcare organizations.
It could be frustrating to see some exciting new features being available only on PowerBI Service, but instead I focus on what we can do with tools at hand, pushing the limits of what’s possible with PowerBI Report Server.
In Part 1 of these series I do a deeper dive into the PowerBI Report Server meta data (think report catalog, data sources, data refreshes, security policies, usage statistics, etc.).
In Part 2 we explore together some fascinating business applications, such as improving server performance, tracking user adoption and many others.
Finally, in Part 3 I share with you two actual products I built leveraging the PowerBI Report Server data: Users Portal and Security Policies Audit.
Alright, let’s Power through it! :-)
